Considered as the original red cream soda, Big Red soda was first created in 1937 in Waco, Texas by Grover C. Thomsen and R.H. Roark. Originally known as Sun Tang Red Cream Soda, they later changed the name to Big Red in the 1950's.

A very popular drink in the Southern United States, Big Red soda is considered as a staple drink during celebrations in the south and it dominates the red cream soda variety because of its unique bubble gum taste and red color, which was a result of mixing orange, lemon oils and pure vanilla.
